REDUCED MALNUTRITION FOOD PROGRAM IN 10% OF THE COUNTRY IN 200 DISTRICTS

Lima, in November. 28 - A 10 percent reduction in chronic malnutrition of children under age 3 in about 200 districts in the country is the result of the Andean Programme for Integrated Development of Food Safety, operating since 2002 and which ends this year.
The program is implemented under the ADRA Food Security Program of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID / Peru), in the departments of Puno, Cusco, Ayacucho, Huancavelica, Amazonas, Cajamarca, San Martín, Huanuco and Ucayali.
The results show that it is possible to substantially reduce malnutrition by applying a comprehensive strategy. Also shows a total of $ 10.5 million in sales by rural families income-generating activities. The strategy implemented
ADRA is based on three basic components: first, the identification of agricultural products with market potential, coordinating producer associations in value chains in local, national and international.
Second, the joint health and nutrition services to empower mothers to improve the nutritional status of children. And third, provide technical assistance to local governments for participatory strategic plans, with emphasis on food security.
